چکیده

This paper presents the characterization of a continuous magnetophoretic microseparator for separating white and red blood cells from whole blood by using a high gradient magnetic separation method and microfabrication technology. The magnetophoretic microseparator directly separates blood cells based on their native magnetic properties without the use of additives such as magnetic tagging or inducing materials. Experimental results show that the diamagnetic capture mode microseparator can continuously separate out 89.7 % of red blood cells and 72.7 % of white blood cells, and the three-stage cascade paramagnetic capture mode microseparator can continuously separate out 93.5 % of red blood cells and 97.4 % of white blood cells from whole blood by applying an external magnetic flux of 0.2 T using a permanent magnet.

Continuous isolation of monocytes using a magnetophoretic-based microfluidic Chip.

Monocytes play an important role in the immune system and are responsible for phagocytizing and degrading foreign microorganisms in the body. The isolation of monocytes is important in various immunological applications such as in-vitro culture of dendritic cells. We present a magnetophoretic-based microfluidic chip for rapid isolation of highly purified, untouched monocytes from human blood by...

Microfluidic magnetophoretic separations of immunomagnetically labeled rare mammalian cells.

Immunomagnetic isolation and magnetophoresis in microfluidics have emerged as viable techniques for the separation, fractionation, and enrichment of rare cells. Here we present the development and characterization of a microfluidic system that incorporates an angled permanent magnet for the lateral magnetophoresis of superparamagnetic beads and labeled cell-bead complexes. A numerical model, ba...

Simulation of a Magnetophoretic Device for the Separation of Colloidal Particles in Magnetic Fluids

Magnetophoresis of non-magnetic particles is the induced motion of non-magnetic particles suspended in magnetic media on the application of a magnetic field gradient. It involves many driving forces arising from different transport phenomena. Magnetophoresis can be used in special separation devices to separate colloidal particles based on their sizes. Multiphysics computational programs, such ...

Stress-free Centrifugo-magnetic 2d-separation of Cancer Cells in a Stopped-flow Mode

This paper presents a refined centrifugo-magnetophoretic platform enabling 2-dimensional separation of cancer cells from background cells [1]. The multi-force, stopped-flow separation combines centrifugal sedimentation with lateral magnetic deflection. In this way, hydrodynamic stresses and variations typical in pressure-driven microfluidic platforms [2][3] are minimized, and collisions between...
